LAOAG CITY, Philippines — Hundreds of Catholic church officials and parishioners paid their final respects to murdered priest Florante Rigonan during his burial Mass here on Thursday.
Laoag Bishop Sergio Utleg, during the Mass that started at 8:30 a.m., renewed his call to police to come up with concrete results and identify the suspects in the murder of Rigonan, parish priest of Pinili town.
Rigonan, who was buried on a land reserved for priests at the Catholic in Barangay (village) 1 here, was gunned down on August 28 after attending a dinner hosted by his church benefactor in Barangay Puritac in Pinili.
Utleg said Rigonan sacrificed his life out of his desire to build a new church.
“How much could have been paid to the assassins? How much did they [those behind the murder] want to evoke such hatred that led to the killing?” Utleg asked.
