LUCENA CITY, Philippines — A policeman of Quezon province was shot by two unidentified gunmen in the outskirts of this city Wednesday morning, the authorities said.
Police identified the victim as one Police Officer 2 Arcadio Jimenez, 41, assigned at Padre Burgos Police Station.
Jimenez suffered fatal gunshot wounds in different parts of his body and was declared dead at the MMG Hospital while undergoing treatment.
The victim, aboard his motorcycle in Kanlurang Mayao village at 7 a.m., was fired upon by one of the assailants using a still unknown caliber firearm.
The gunmen then fled with the victim’s .45 cal. service firearm and his motorcycle.
Police investigators said one of the gunmen could be a hitman of the New People’s Army (NPA) or a criminal exacting revenge.
