DIGOS CITY, Philippines — Provincial board members, department heads, and other capitol employees using government-owned vehicles will have to look for their own means of transportation after the newly elected governor ordered the recall of all issued vehicles for impounding.

Governor Douglas Cagas, making good his promise to implement various reforms in the provincial government during the campaign period, has ordered the impounding of all government-owned vehicles at the motor pool to save maintenance and fuel expenses.

Cagas said he would not allow capitol employees to utilize government-owned vehicles for personal purposes.

Provincial General Services Officer (PGSO) Allan Putong said they were still conducting a general inventory of all government-owned vehicles issued by former Governor Benjamin Bautista to various departments in the provincial capitol.

The late governors Rogelio and Reynerio Llanos, and Bautista have issued to department heads, provincial board members and some capitol employees government vehicles whose maintenance would come from financial resources of the province.

Cagas said the finances intended for fuel, oil, and maintenance of those vehicles would be used instead to finance infrastructure projects and other relevant expenditures such as health, education, livelihood and the maintenance of peace and order.

A general revamp for all department heads is also expected, he said.
