COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Government security forces killed a suspected communist guerilla during a clash in a remote village of Magpet, North Cotabato on Wednesday, the military said Thursday.

Lieutenant Colonel Victor Tan, commander of the 39th Infantry Battalion, said soldiers were patrolling Bagumbayan village around 8 a.m. when they encountered about 20 New Peoples Army (NPA) rebels.

He identified the slain rebel as Ruel Abawon.

He said the soldiers also recovered a sketch of a military detachment and an improvised explosive device from the slain rebel.
