SAN CARLOS CITY— Carrying placards demanding justice, residents of this Pangasinan city marched behind the hearse carrying Mayor Julian Resuello’s remains to his resting place here on Sunday.
The procession left Resuello’s political campaign headquarters at 11 a.m., proceeded to the Catholic Church here for a Mass, and continued on for a brief pause in front of City Hall before proceeding to the Holy Garden Memorial Park in Barangay Agdao where he was buried at 2:30 p.m.
Thousands of residents lined the route to the cemetery, also carrying placards saying “Justice for Mayor Julian Resuello.” Black ribbons adorned many fences and houses.
Resuello was shot dead on April 28 as he worked the crowd at an auditorium where a beauty pageant was being held to mark the fiesta here. He was campaigning for the vice mayoral slot.
He died two days later at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City.
A suspect in the slaying was arrested in a hospital in this city. Police are hunting a second suspect.
Resuello’s son Julier and his brother Joseres were elected mayor and vice mayor, respectively, in the May 14 elections.
